Liverpool FC Fans History and Club

Liverpool fc fans watch their team play at Anfield. The Liverpool fc team is an English professional football team from the city of Liverpool in England. The Liverpool fc club was founded in 1892 and Liverpool fans saw their club become one of the English football league teams in 1893.

The Liverpool supporters have enjoyed many successes in English football and hold the record for the most league titles. The Liverpool fans have silverware from 18 league wins, seven league cups and seven FA Cups triumphs. The Liverpool fc fans also have enjoyed the most success by an English football team in European Cup football. In 2005 they won the European Cup for a fifth time and have also won the UEFA Cup three times. Liverpool fans currently are ranked number three in Europe and number six in the world for Championships won.

The Liverpool fans main rivals have always been with nearby clubs Everton and Manchester United and in 1964 Manager Bill Shankly changed the home colours from red shirts and white shorts to all red shirts and shorts. The Liverpool fans are amongst some of the most passionate english football fans and the Liverpool football teams anthem is "You'll Never Walk Alone".

Unfortunately the Liverpool fans have been present for two of footballs worst moments, when the Heysel Stadium wall collapsed in 1985, fatally injuring 39 Juventus supporters and the Hillsborough Disaster in the 1989 when 96 Liverpool supporters were fatally crushed against the fencing surrounding the pitch.

Liverpool football club was created in 1892 after an argument between the owner of Anfield land and club secretary, John Houlding and the Everton football club committee who played on the land. When the two parties split the Everton team moved and took over Goodison Park and John Houlding created a new company called "Everton fc and Athletics Grounds Ltd." however the Football Association would not acknowledge the new club as being "Everton" so Houlding later renamed the club Liverpool FC in June of 1892. Liverpool fc took part in the Lancashire League in their first season and straight away won it gaining many new supports along the way. At the start of the 1893-94 season the Liverpool fc team joined the Second Division which they again promptly won.

Now finally in the top flight of English football the Liverpool fc supporters had not long to wait for their first major silverware and in 1901 the Liverpool fans watched their club win the First Division title. The supporters won the League again in 1906 and again in 1922 and 1923 but the fans were then forced to wait until 1947 to win their fifth First Division title. The fans watched their club take part in FA Cup finals in 1914 and also 1950, where they were defeated both times by Burnley FC and Arsenal respectively. The fortunes of the club changed in the 1950s and at the end of the 1953-54 season the fans had to watch as their club was relegated to the Second Division of English football.

In 1958-59 Liverpool fc fans were successful in making it to the FA Cup final but again lost to Worcester City fc 2-1. But this moment marked a change in the strategy and tactics of the club and after the loss in the final Bill Shankly was employed as the new Manager of Liverpool fc and immediately let 24 players go.

New strategies and football tactics were outlined by Bill Shankly and in 1962 the Liverpool fc fans saw their club rejoin the First Division of English football and in 1964 the Liverpool fc fans witnessed their club winning the league after a seventeen year spell. In 1965 the Liverpool fans won the FA Cup for the first time and gained even more silverware in 1966 when the club won the First Division again. The successes kept coming and in 1973 the Liverpool fans supported their club to a UEFA Cup and League Double triumph and in the next season another success came in the form of an FA Cup win. 1974 Bob Paisley became Manager when Bill Shankly retired and in his second year in charge took the club to another league and UEFA Cup double in 1976. More success followed as the fans enjoyed winning the league title again as well as winning, for the first time, the European Cup in 1977 and again in 1978 the fans successfully managed to keep hold of the European Cup title. In 1979 home glory came again with another First Division title for the supporters.

In 1983 Joe Fagan replaced Paisley and immediately in his first season in charge added to the bulging silverware cabinet with a record breaking "triple" win of the League, League Cup and European Cup. In 1985 Liverpool fc reached the European Cup final against Juventus. The match was played at the now infamous Heysel stadium and in Liverpool football club's lowest point in their history the Liverpool fans disgraced the name of the club by breaking through a fence which was keeping opposing fans apart. The Liverpool fc supporters then rushed at the Juventus supporters causing a wall to collapse and kill 39 Italian fans. As a result of the hooliganism all English football clubs were banned from European football for five years with supporters and club receiving a ten year ban, but they were eventually allowed back after only six years away.

After the Heysel Stadium Disaster Kenny Dalglish became the new Manager after Joe Fagan retired. Kenny Dalglish acting as player-manager took the Liverpool fc fans to more success with three wins in the League Championship and two FA Cup wins. More tragedy struck the Liverpool fans when in April 1989 at a match against Nottingham Forest at the Hillsborough Stadium 96 Liverpool fans where crushed to death against the pitch side fencing. The horrific accident, due to overcrowding and a lack of Police control, brought about a in depth review of stadium safety and was the reason all professional football stadiums are required by law to be entirely all-seater.

In 1991 Kenny Dalglish resigned and his position was taken over by Graeme Souness a former Liverpool fc player. 1992 saw the Liverpool supporters rejoice with a win in the FA Cup final but further titles alluded Graeme Souness who was subsequently replaced by Roy Evans. 1995 brought a League Cup win for the Liverpool fans also the accolade of "Match of Decade" for the game in April 1996 when Liverpool beat Newcastle United 4-3 at Anfield.

Gérard Houllier became the Liverpool fc Manager in November 1998 the Liverpool fans soon were celebrating again when Gérard Houllier took the club to another treble win of the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup in 2000. In the 2001–02 season the Liverpool fans were runners-up behind Arsenal and after Houllier had an intense heart operation, he was later replaced by Rafael Benítez at the end of 2003–04. In Benitez's first season the Liverpool fans finished fifth in the domestic league but actually won the UEFA Champions League narrowly beating Milan on penalties.

The clubs financial problem were highlighted when in 2006 American businessmen Tom Hicks and George Gillett bought the club which had debts at £218.9 million. In 2007 the Liverpool supporters reached the UEFA Champions League Final against Milan again, however this time lost the match. In the 2008–09 season failed to win a title even though they ended the season on a record highest number of point for the club. In 2010 the talk moved again away from the football and the rumours of the clubs bankruptcy became evident when the clubs creditors asked the High Court to out the club up for sale.

Finally the Liverpool FC fans saw a new owner of the club in the form of John Henry of New England Sports Ventures, the prominent and influential owner of the Boston Red Sox.

Liverpool FC Fans Football Ground

The supporters watch their club play at the football stadium called "Anfield" called this because of the area in which is is situated in Liverpool. The stadium was originally built in 1884 and occupied by Everton football club after an argument between the owner of the land and the football club committee, Everton fc moved out in 1892 and the new Liverpool fc was created to occupy the ground.

Liverpool fans famous stadium has four stands with a total Anfield capacity of 45,362. The Spion Kop, Main Stand, Centenary Stand and Anfield Road stands were full when the record attendance of 61,905 was recorded in 1952 for a match between Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers before all seating stands because compulsory in 1994.

The Liverpool fans have hosted many prestigious events at the Anfield Stadium, including many England internationals. The Liverpool's fans also saw their stadium used as a venue for some of the Euro 96 matches. Many other sporting events have been held at the Anflield stadium in its history including tennis matches and boxing fights and the ground is even due to be the stage for many of the 2015 Rugby World Cup games.

Back in 2002 a new stadium was planned to replace the current Liverpool supporters stands and it was due to be complete in late 2005. However due to difficulties with financing the project and downturn of the economic climate the new 60,000 seater stadium project was put on hold.
